Weight Loss 'AHA' Moments

Weight Loss 'AHA' Moments

Have you ever had a sudden moment of clarity where a light-bulb goes off in your head and you think: 'AHA! That's IT!!'? These moments are very exciting and powerful, because they mean that you have experienced a subconscious shift. When you start to think differently about the things you have been doing this can inspire you to make powerful and positive changes not just with weight loss, but in all areas of your life. When you experience this kind of shift, you find that what may have seemed a foreign concept to you in the past, now just feels 'right'.

To give an example of what I mean, many people who come to see me are stuck in what I call 'rollercoaster' thinking. That is, they are accustomed to going on a diet and being 'good' for a certain number of weeks or months. But what happens at the end of this time? Well most people go right back to their original eating patterns. With the abandonment of the 'diet' come overindulgence, self-hatred and usually more weight gain. Not a great result for all that effort.

You see for most of us, it's pretty easy to be perfect for a short time. The problem is that when eventually we tire of this. We get sick of being 'good' all the time while others around us are being 'bad'. So eventually we crack; and then we find ourselves right back where we started; overweight and unhappy. This is the dichotomy of the diet; it doesn't change your attitude towards food. Yet many people are so used to being stuck in the 'diet rollercoaster mindset' that anything else is extremely foreign to them. Here are some of the most common elements of the diet mindset;

* I must follow my diet perfectly or not at all;

* There are either 'good' foods or 'bad' foods. I must avoid all 'bad' foods and eat only 'good' foods;

* If I have a small piece of chocolate, I have been 'bad', therefore I have failed and I must start all over again;

When 'Anna came to see me, her weight loss 'AHA' moment came after her second consultation. She realized that she held a very strong subconscious belief that no matter what weight loss program she tried, she could never expect to complete it in full or, as she put it, 'to do it properly.' As part of my weight loss program, I recommend that my clients eat some of the things they enjoy, without going overboard. I call this a 'free meal day'. This process is designed to assist clients to shift away from the 'all-or-nothing mindset and move into manageable lifestyle adjustment.

The problem is that many people fall into the trap of mistaking their 'free meal day' as a blunder or a slip up. When 'Anna' finally came to terms with her old outdated belief, she was able to embrace her 'free meal day' and enjoy it for what it was. Instead of punishing herself for being 'bad', or for not 'doing it properly', she began to look forward to this special day in the week. All along, 'Anna' WAS actually following the program properly; it's just that she wasn't used to allowing herself some of the foods she enjoyed. As you change your attitude towards food and eating, you will lose weight and you will be able to keep that weight off in the long term.

'Karina' was a beautiful and vibrant 45 year old woman who was stuck in the past. She had a strong belief that her body was not acceptable as it was, and that she 'must' look like a 15 year old model. She was approaching menopause, yet continued to chastise herself because she did not look the way had looked years ago when she was in her youth. 'Karina' was also stuck in the pattern of behaving like a young person; drinking too much, avoiding exercise and generally expecting her body to bounce back from the abuse she dished out in the same way it had when she was younger. When her 'AHA' came to her, she realized what she was doing. She began to accept her body and treat it the way it deserved to be treated; with care and respect.

Whatever your block to weight loss is, you can find the solution, and it all starts with self-awareness. Find out which beliefs or ideas are holding you back. As you do this, you will find many 'AHA' moments coming to you. These will allow you to move through your blocks and maintain a healthy weight for your age.

Weigh Loss - Is it a mind game?

Weigh Loss - Is it a mind game?

There was this lady who heard on the television about how it was possible to think yourself slim and thought it to be a load of rubbish regarding weight loss. So Is Weight Loss Merely A Mind Game? She wondered. And she thought of it as just rubbish and quickly dispensed with the thought.

But then out of the blue, someone she knew called her and told her that she had lost three stone and she said she owed it all to a book that she read about Goal Mapping and visualizing yourself being smaller. She was even featured in a couple of fast weight loss magazines because of it.

It is that said that weight loss is 50% physical and 50% mental. And that a person can eat a healthy diet and exercise rigorously, but beyond that...it's all in the mind.

Good weight loss tips...You need to have the right mindset because this is what can spell the big difference between success and failure. It is true, of course that some of that is hormonal, and some of that is just believing in yourself.

So would that be something like if you are a size 16, but you want to be a size 12, you have to start thinking of yourself as a size 12 - and that includes eating the kind of portions that a size 12 would eat?

Possible? Why not? Point being, if you apply your mind to something, your mind can do anything. They key factor here lies in knowing that you really want do it. And make sure you will ensure that you keep doing it, even through the hard times....The times when you don't believe that you can accomplish what you set out to do. That's the important part here. Never falter on your goal here.

Why it is even believed that drinking oil from the skin of certain reptiles can also help a person lose weight. Fact, rumor or natural weight loss?

But let's get back to that book on Goal Mapping. Some pretty interesting stuff there. Like for instance, about how what we think triggers a process in our subconscious mind which then results in us taking that action. Which would thereby imply that, if we are always thinking "mustn't eat chocolate", we send our subconscious a thought of us "eating chocolate" and we end up craving chocolate and then... then eating it!

Perhaps the real key here lies in Visualization. Visualization is a useful technique and it is believed that practically all highly successful sprinters (Olympic-level athletes) visualize crossing the goal line first. While most of us fantasize about winning a race, the sprinters are absolutely convinced they will win. And one of them is usually right.

The point being: if you can imagine it and visualize it perhaps your goal will become a reality.

Visualizing a healthy weight loss perhaps?

Being Obese - Why Obesity is a Serious Threat to Your Health

Being Obese - Why Obesity is a Serious Threat to Your Health

Increasing weight of the body which is actually more than the limitation of physical requirement and skeletal, and as a result, excessive accumulation of the fat in body.

It is well known to everyone that obesity might cause risks to your health and it would be more stressful than finding the cloths which fit you perfectly. Obesity is actually viewed by several, particularly by the companies of insurance and is taken in as severe medical condition. Several people do not understand as to how critical it actually is for obese individual to obtain a perfect insurance; this is because the health risks that an obese person faces might cost a huge amount of money to the company.

One amongst the common reasons as to why the insurance companies would reject the application is due to the over weight of the person which is regarded as a superior threat pre existing state. If an insurance company decides to take in an obese patient as their client, then they frequently boost up their premium to approximately twice the money that they take from a normal person.

If you have a feeling that this condition is superiorly unfair and prejudiced against individuals who are facing weight problem, may be you might be right, but the prejudice against individuals with chronic or pre existing conditions is considered to be a normal practise in the insurance market, in the end, the company of insurance is a commerce which render proper care to their clients and have to make money too. Actually 2004 ruling given by the Federal government, where the insurance company are permitted to charge superior premium for the obese infected individuals and this actually encourage individuals to lose weight and help them to be normal and healthy.

A fascinating fact is even though the insurance companies identify obesity as superior risky chronic condition, which ever treatments towards decreasing the heaviness (inclusive of weight loss treatments) have been excluded. However this policy is even applied to which ever chronic condition which is developed by client before taking in the insurance plan.

Listed below are few of health conditions which worry the insurance companies that their obese clients may develop:

-Increase of blood pressure

-Type two diabetes

-Heart stroke and disease

-Osteoarthritis

-Some kind of cancer

-Gallbladder disease

-Sleep apnea

-Liver disease

All these above medical conditions are considered to be a severe threat to an individual's health and needs medical treatments which frequently come to the astral total cost. If an individual turns to be an obese and comes across to one of the above stated health conditions later to the commencement of the insurance policy, and at such time, the cost for the treatment has to be covered, however not for the obesity itself.

In short, the obesity must be taken as life time threatening condition and not just mere esthetic matter. May be in the forthcoming, the companies of insurance would take a decision to include the obesity treatment in medical cover, however till then try to stay healthy as well as fit because by this you will be benefited and so your wallet.

Obesity - The Link Between Obesity and Periodontal Disease in Children

Obesity - The Link Between Obesity and Periodontal Disease in Children

Obesity and periodontal disease often appear to be tethered to one another. In children, that link requires parents and health care providers to monitor each variable in an effort to maintain the overall health of those they care for.

One explanation is the change in eating and drinking habits of children. More sugared sodas, power drinks and fruit juice substitutes make up our young adults beverages of choice. Ironically milk and "healthy"- 100% juices given to children in bottles and sippy cups also contributes to the problem. The array of snack food available is overwhelming. The low fat variety, although at first glance may appear healthy, actually contains more sugar than the high fat variety. A lot less vitamin C and calcium are ingested per calories by children today. All of these factors add to the total number of empty calories consumed by children.

This change in diet along with less physical activity adds weight to children, particularly those predisposed to obesity. The average number of hours in front of a television set or computer grows each year.

One explanation for the link between obesity and periodontal disease is through the pathway of insulin resistance. Those who are obese produce more cytokines, putting the body in the state of constantly fighting infection and producing insulin resistance. Another, yet proven hypothesis for the link between obesity and periodontal disease is that the bacteria from gum disease may be interfering with fat metabolism.

Unfortunately the symptoms of periodontal disease are often not noticeable until the disease is advanced. A dentist can diagnose the disease in the early stages, prior to parents realizing their children have it. Thus, it is important that children receive regular six-month oral check ups and cleanings.

Periodontal disease is controlled by a disciplined and meticulous oral cleaning regimen, both at the dental office and at home. Professional treatment may require below the gum line scraping, three-month check ups instead of the traditional six-month, and a prescription oral rinse. Home treatment requires thorough plaque removal by brushing and flossing at least twice a day. Because it is a laborious task to floss, most children (and adults) don't.

Many children are negligent about their tooth brushing and flossing. As a parent it is important to find a way to enhance the experience, make it an expectation and a part of a twice daily routine. Remember studies now show that oral health is critical to total health.

Want to learn more on how to have a white and healthy smile and manage periodontal disease? I have designed and developed a home dental cleaning system that uses the technology of the professional Prophy-Jet to power wash between your teeth and around the gum line.

Obese Kids Root Cause

Obese Kids Root Cause

The rise in the amount of fat kids in Europe and America is the base of a current debate about who is responsible for this increase.

There are a number of elements to be taken into consideration such as our 20th century lifestyles and modern technology, but the main cause must be laid clearly at the steps of the parents.

A study funded by the National Prevention Research Initiative, claims that seven out of ten parents are in denial about the problem their children being face by being overweight.

Many, underestimating the real risk to their children's health, dismiss the extra level of plumpness as a little 'Chubby' or 'Puppy Fat.'

Child Obesity is a medical disorder that is found in both adults and overweight young children. Children who suffer from this disorder will typically have a weight that is out of proportion with their age and height.

The researches said "If the rising tide of obesity is to be halted, parents must accept the difference and the responsibility between a healthy weight for their child and being overweight.

An experiment conducted into childhood obesity, by nutritional specialist Dr Angela Jones, weighed an measured (including their BMI Body max index) more than 500 Children between the ages of six and eight.

She then asked the parents how they perceived their child's weight, giving them a selection of answers to choose from. - Very Underweight - Underweight - Normal - Overweight - and Very Overweight. Over 70% of the parents with children classed as 'Very Over weight' or 'Obese', described their child as being "Normal."
Even the fattest child!

Many parents rationalise their child's extra pounds, with sayings that vary, from "they are still growing" or" they will grow out of it" to "they will have a growth spurt and soon grow skinny again." While some fat children may outgrow obesity, others carry it with them into their adult lives. Obesity in children can affect their physiology. It can also place them at greater risk for diabetes and heart disease.

Dr Jones told the European Congress on Obesity in Amsterdam "Childhood overweight and obesity is a Global public concern with significant implications for immediate and long term health. She said that parents play a key role in children's food intake and physical activity. Parental recognition of childhood obesity in fundamental to the prevention. She went on the add "the increase in the number of overweight children is deeply troubling, because the more overweight a child or youth is, the more likely they are to continue to be overweight into adulthood.

In conclusion. It is so easy to gain weight in a world that convenience foods are most peoples answer to a good and proper meal, and where parents think that food should be used as a reward for children doing something good.

All they are doing however, is contributing to civilizations biggest problem and dooming their child to a life of obesity.

While it is easy to blame junk food companies, it's the parents that ultimately have the responsibility of making sure their children eat a healthy diet and exercise often.

Obesity - Major Threat to Your Health & Life

Obesity - Major Threat to Your Health & Life

Many people consider obesity as an overweight. This is because the meaning of obesity and overweight are parallel to each other but yet they do not meet on any point. Obesity is a medical term which determines that the person has exceed overweight and is now obese, who is in a critical state of developing many fatal and long term diseases.

Obesity can be simply defined as an unwanted and unhealthy amount of body fats. Today obesity has become a serious issue in public health. Nearly, 1 billion of people are categorized obese and the latest approximations are that 34 percent of U.S. adults aged 20 to 74 years are overweight, and an additional 27 percent are obese.

Though many weight loss tonics and medications are available but still obesity is increasing rapidly because of the negligence, poor diets, null physical exercise etc.

Are you obese?

There are many ways to measure the obesity. But, here are three different ways which are widely use to measure the obesity.

Body mass index (BMI):

Body Mass Index (BMI) is widely used measuring tool for obesity. It is also known as the standard method to measure the obesity. BMI calculates the obesity by the help of simple mathematical calculation which is weight divided by the height. Where, weight is in kilograms and height in the meter square i.e. weight in kilograms/ height in meter2. BMI of 25 to 29 results overweight and BMI result over 30 shows obese. Although BMI is widely used it also has some limitations. BMI results are not always 100% true and sometimes it also results wrong because it cannot distinguish between body fat and muscles.

Waist circumference:

Waist circumference is non-scientific and improper way to measure obesity. It especially measures the fat contents in the abdominal area. Obesity is harmful and is the source of different diseases because of its unwanted fats that disturbs the body function. But, fats around the abdomen are considered even worst and are very dangerous. Men are at increased risk if they have a waist measurement greater than 40 inches. Women are at increased risk if they have a waist measurement greater than 35 inches.

Waist to hip ratio:

This is the ratio of one's waist circumference divided by one's hip circumference. This ratio also reflects the hypothesis that carrying weight around the mid-section is particularly detrimental for people with a given BMI. A WHR that is greater than 1.0 is considered risky. For women, a WHR of 0.80 or less is considered safe, whereas a WHR of 0.90 for men is considered safe.

What health risk does obesity transports?

Heart disease:

Heart disease is the major cause of death observed in US. People who are obese develop high risk of heart diseases like: high blood pressure, heart attack problem, stroke etc. In obese people sudden death due to angina, heart attacks and stroke is seen which is very hazardous. If you are obese then it's better if you focus on your diets and physical exercise. A balance diet and proper physical exercise can help you reduce the risk of heart disease.

Diabetes:

Type2 diabetes is commonly seen in obese people. The unwanted body fat reduces the body ability to produce insulin which leads to type2 diabetes. Obesity and diabetes has been major cause of early death and sudden attacks of heart associated diseases. Obese people are more likely to suffer from type2 diabetes then the normal people.

The only way to avoid these diseases and problems is to reduce your body fat by physical exercise and proper diets. It is a good idea if you consult your doctor for weight loss program.

Sleep apnea:

Sleep apnea is life threatening condition seen in obese people. Generally, obese people are found to suffer from this critical condition where the individual stops breathing for a short period to time. People suffering from sleep apnea may get heart attack and strokes which may lead to death. The simple and the best way to avoid this fatal problem is weight loss.

Gout:

Gout is an extreme joint pain due to the high level of uric acid present in our blood. Lack of physical exercise and poor diet sometimes leads to severe condition by forming the uric acid into a crystal masses which sets down in our joint and cause gout. People who are obese are seen to face this problem because of their weight, poor diet and physical exercise. If you are suffering from gout then we suggest you to consult your doctor before making any decision for weight loss program and using other weight loss tonics.

Psychological factor:

Psychological factor is a serious problem in obesity. People who are obese generally feel shame and embracing due to their body figure and size. Obese people are seen humiliated at their work and school which surely leads to depression. The only way to shun these problems can be weight loss and doctors suggestions.

Are you standing on the following spots?

Age:

Our body metabolism changes with the growing age. As we grow old the body metabolism slows down and the body needs only limited amounts of fat and calories.

But, many people think that in adult age body becomes weak so they consume more amounts of foods and perform less physical activity which certainly leads to obesity. People lack physical exercise but consume more which brings obesity.

Genetics:

Genes affects our weight related process and body metabolism like: as metabolic rate, blood glucose metabolism, fat-storage etc. It is seen that if the parents are obese then children are also likely to be obese. Though this is not universal but still the probability remains high. In some other cases when the infant is born overweight then it is seen that his/her mother is physically less active. Therefore, even genes play important role obesity.

Physical exercise:

Physical exercise is a basic necessity to overcome obesity. If you are obese then it's good if we join jogging, swimming, yoga classes and other physical work outs to reduce the unwanted body fat. Low physical efforts tend to increase obesity along with different diseases.

Eating habit:

Eating habit is considered as a source of obesity. Some people have a habit of eating even if they are not hungry, this is not good because providing more fats and calories then the body demands leads to obesity because these unwanted fats store in our body and gives negative impact to our body.

Slow metabolism:

Women face more difficulty in loosing weight then men. Women have less muscles then men and muscles are the main fats burning factors in our body. The food we eat contains fats and calories which is burn down by the muscles and digestive process which converts them to energy. As the women have less muscular body their body metabolism to burn these foods are slow. Hence, if the woman is obese then she will definitely face problems in losing their weight and even to regain it when they are under weight.
If you belong to any of above mentioned points then you are likely to have obesity. But, obesity can be reduced and avoided with good physical exercise, better diet and being health conscious.

What Surgery can do for you?

Obesity surgery is the last stage known for weight reduction. The surgery is found critical and is expensive too. Doctors prescribe surgery only when the person is found to be in life threatening stage. Obese people with high blood sugar level and blood pressure or every means of weight loss when fails then the procedure of surgery in done.

Bariatric surgery:

Bariatric surgery is a treatment option for those people who are living with morbid obesity. The surgeon recommends this surgery for only those obese people have not yet experienced any weight loss from any other weight loss programs. It is a medical name used for different procedures which includes effective weight loss agenda for the obese people.

Restrictive procedure:

Into this process a small stomach pouch is made by the surgeon that limits the amount of food consumed by the patient. This stomach pouch is filled quickly even with a small amount of food which satisfies the patient even with the less food. Some of the examples are: gastric banding and sleeve gastrectomy.

Malabsorptive Procedure:

During these procedures, the surgeon reroutes the small intestine so that food skips a portion of it. The small intestine absorbs calories and nutrients from food, and avoiding part of it means that some calories and nutrients are not absorbed.

Surgeons rarely perform strictly malabsorptive procedures. Most procedures that use malabsorption also use restriction.

Combination Procedure:

Certain procedures such as Roux-en-Y gastric bypass surgery use a combination of restriction and malabsorption. During this procedure, the surgeon creates a small pouch. The surgeon then attaches a Y-shaped section of the small intestine directly to the stomach pouch. This allows food to bypass a large portion of the small intestine, which absorbs calories and nutrients. The smaller stomach pouch causes patients to feel fuller sooner and eat less food; bypassing a portion of the small intestine means the patient's body absorbs fewer calories. Some examples of combination procedure are: gastric bypass and Biliopancreatic diversion with duodenal switch.

The above mentioned methods and procedures help to reduce weight and unnecessary body fats in the patient. But, the surgery of obesity is only done when no other weight loss program works on the patient.

Your prescribed Medications:

If you are obese then consult your doctor because the medications prescribed by them are often seen helpful with some amazing results. With a successful medication program one can easily reduce 5 pounds of your weight within a month of his treatment. Loss of 10 to 15 percent of in the total weight is seen approximately in every individual who undergo medication prescribed by the doctors.

But, medication has also its limits. Great loss of weight can only be expected when they are taken as directed by doctors. Mean while physical exercise and balanced diet are also recommended because as the medication is discontinued abnormal gain of weight and fatty tissues are observe.

Medications are suggested by doctors when the BMI of the patient is found greater then 30 or of those people having BMI more then 27 who have other medical problems like: diabetes, high blood pressure etc. if not then rather then undergoing medication process its better to work out with your diets and physical exercises which can naturally help you to reduce your weight without any side effects.

5 easy ways to maintain your health, body and Obesity:

" Sleep well because your body needs rest. Don't sleep at day time and don't sleep more then 8 hours.

" Munch some balanced diet as directed by your doctors because they know the best. Stick with your routine and your directed diets.

" Increase your exercise a bit and give more time to your body. Keep in mind that you must be physically and psychologically strong so make your self strong and don't feel hectic.

" Take a regular walk and engage yourself in different activities like: swimming, aerobic, yoga, jogging etc.

" Aim to loose 2 pounds a week. Put some physical exercise in your daily routine but not the hard one.
