Pilates Weight Loss – The Benefits of Starting a Pilates Program
June 17, 2010
In order to work effectively the body needs daily vigorous exercise. Most people don’t get it and that’s why they feel so down. Life is busy and filled with countless chores. It’s no wonder people forget to exercise. Here’s where Pilates comes in and it won’t take long before you start to feel the benefits.
You will need to learn how to perform the poses, stretches and exercises. I find a Windsor, Stott or other Pilates DVD with professional instruction to be very beneficial. This way you can follow along while you watch, making adjustments as you go. If you are keen you can use a mirror to see if your posture is the same as the Pilates instuctors on the video.
What’s fantastic about doing a Pilates routine is you do not need all the fancy equipment of a gym. There’s some great equipment, like the magic circle and the Aero Reformer but if you are just learning Pilates than all you will want is a Pilates mat. Look for a good quality mat and something that is non slip as well.
If the basic routine gets a little bit bland it’s time to mix things up a little. Find a few good Pilates DVD’s for your collection that spice things up a bit and exercise the areas of the body that you feel need some work. There is no reason to get bored with so many variations. Don’t forget that stretching also is a great way to lengthen and strengthen the muscles. There is nothing wrong with adding a stretching session to your weekly routine.
I find many like to start a program but few persist with it. Just imagine, how many years have you lived with bad habits? So give your body at least a few months to find health and healing. They say it takes about three months before good habits start to be formed so when I start a program I like to try it for at least three months. I have found Pilates exercise to be very rewarding. I’m sure you will too.
